Welcome to Mapel Wood Farms! Mapel Wood is one of the long established Holstein Herds in Canada . Leo Vis came over from Holland in 1951, and by 1955, he had saved enough to pay the deposit on this farm. Upon purchasing the farm, Leo was quite proud of the stand of maple trees. But having only been in Canada for a few years and his English was still improving, so when he registered a prefix for his new herd her spelt it the way it sounded, Mapel Wood. That is how we ended up with the distinctive farm name. The farm is now owned and operated by Len and Tracey Vis. Focusing on providing cattle and genetics to all markets. The herd consists of high index cattle, show type cattle, and deep pedigreed cattle. Many sires over the years have come to prominence around the world (Mapel Wood Tiger Cat, Ideal, Commotion, Cliffhanger, and Estimate). As well as other families being developed within the herd, including Silky Gibson & Cousteau. Always looking to provide what the world and domestic market demands, Mapel Wood is home to many prominent cattle. Currently housing Hawkridge Aaron Isabella VG-2YR (Aaron from full sister to Inquirer and Igniter), Reitban Con Carmel VG-86-2YR (#53 LPI cow in Canada , from the Gypsy Grand Family), and Breadale Nita VG-86-2YR (#26 LPI cow, from the full sister to Freelance). Also in the past housing, such established brood cows as Clietus Imapala (dam of Gibson and Cousteau) with progeny still in the herd. NEWS! We just got classified last week and have some great results to share! A Morty daughter out of Durham Ladina scored VG-85 and is milking over 110 pounds. The Champion from Allen Diamonds also scored VG-85 and is milking over 100 pounds. Other highlights include a Canuck scoring VG-85, a Gibson scoring VG-86, a Gilbert scoring VG-87 and a Shark classifying 2E-91. | |
